ELUNED Morgan has endorsed the Welsh Labour Government’s position that it will provide free sanitary products to those who need them at NHS hospitals.
This announcement will ensure that women in Wales are able to access essential period products. The Welsh Labour Government has recently committed more than £1m to tackle period poverty in Welsh schools and communities.
Currently the provision of sanitary products for hospital inpatients varies across the country as each health board has their own policy.
Eluned Morgan AM said: “Patients should expect to receive the same level of comfort and dignity wherever they live. It is excellent news that this policy will be implemented across Wales and especially for in-patients in our own local hospitals.”
“The Welsh Government has already identified a budget to help support measures to end period poverty, a policy which was highlighted again during a debate on International Women’s Day in the Senedd this week. I am particularly pleased that further measures are being taken to support those who find themselves without access to essential period products whilst they are receiving treatment in hospital.”
“I intend to raise this matter with senior management at the Health Board in the coming weeks, where this topic and others will be on my agenda.”
