Awarded an OBE: Former principal of Coleg Sir Gar Barry Liles
TWIGGY, Michael Palin and Harry Kane are among the celebrities to be honoured in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List. The list contains more than 1,100 people, mainly honoured for undertaking outstanding work in their communities.

Closer to home the former principal of Coleg Sir Gar Barry Liles was awarded an OBE for services to skills and to young people in Wales.. Head teacher of Heol Goffa School in Llanellli, Nicola Symmonds was awarded an MBE for services to skills and to young people in Wales..

The Welsh recipients include Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas, lead singer of the Alarm, Mike Peters, cricketer Matthew Maynard, David Byron Lewis, Lord-Lieutenant of West Glamorgan and Sonia Alison Davies, Lieutenancy Clerk for Dyfed.

Helen Jenkins – MBE. For services to Triathlon.

Graham Drinkwater – MBE. For services to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and to charity

Robert Vernon Harris – MBE. Deputy Launching Authority, Port Talbot Lifeboat Station, Royal National Lifeboat Institution. For services to charity.

Mike Peters – MBE. For voluntary services to Cancer Care in North Wales and Abroad.

Matthew Maynard – MBE. For services to charity and to Sport.

Alison and David Murray Lea-Wilson – MBE. For services to Business in Wales.

Cairn Newton-Evans – British Empire Medal. Special Chief Officer, Dyfed-Powys Police. For services to Policing and to the LGBT community in Wales

Richard Stanton and John Volanthen – George Medal

Philip Pullman – Knights Bachelor. For services to Literature.

Belinda Jane Davies – Queen’s Police Medal

Darius James Williams – OBE. For services to Ballet and to community Dance.

Professor Derek Kenton Jones – MBE. For services to Medical Imaging and to the Promotion of Science Engagement.

Leon Gardiner – British Empire Medal. For services to the community in Wales

Richard Paines – British Empire Medal. For services to Policing and to the community in South Wales.
